SEAGLASS COTTAGE
A couple—expatriate Canadians who live in Bermuda—called upon Kelly Deck Design to design a West Coast summer getaway in which to create childhood memories with their two daughters.
Working with Sunshine Coast architect Walter Powell and with clear direction from the client, Kelly Deck Design drew inspiration from the Hamptons beach house featured in the film Something’s Gotta Give.
The resulting 4,500-square-foot, four-bedroom cottage is a light-filled oasis with tongue-and-groove beadboard ceilings and walls, white washed beams, and wide plank European oak floors.
Walls of windows and French doors lead to a wraparound deck to create a bright, airy interior that accentuates the sweeping ocean views.
Decorative cues came courtesy of the island idyll of Bermuda; the client collects sea glass with her daughters, and requested that the home decor draw from this palate. In response, Kelly Deck Design deployed soft, watery hues in graphic fabrics, abstract art, and accents of turquoise, aqua, citron and celadon.
